MUNTREAL targets upgrade on revenue collection

COTABATO CITY --- The Municipal Treasures League (MUNTREAL) of Maguindanao is determined to push through with its advocacy to further improve revenue collection during a recent monthly meeting of the organization. 

Engr. Tokan Brahim, president of MUNTREAL, said the highlight of their meeting was the presentation of the revenue growth of each municipality. “As reflected during the presentation, there were some municipalities which marked good percentage when it comes to their revenue collection. 

"The reason why we are doing this is to make our members aware about the status of the revenue collection in their respective municipalities,” Brahim said. Brahim  said.  

He stressed that  their target is to “upgrade revenue collection”. “MUNTREAL focuses now in improving its revenue collection "we would want them to come up with good strategies in collecting revenues within their localities". With this endeavour, we expect that our revenue collections shall improve,” said Brahim.

Tthey were optimistic on the positive responses of the business sector during the conduct of "One Stop Shop" program in the province's 36 towns on the first quarter of the year Bhahim added.

The "One Stop Shop" is a convergence effort of different government agencies involved with business registration and renewal process.These agencies are the Municipal Treasurer’s Office, Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator’s Office, Municipal Engineer’s Office, Municipal Health Office, Municipal Administrator’s Office, Office of the Environment and Natural Resources, Municipal Agriculture Office, Bureau of Fire Protection, and the Municipal Police Office. 

“We are happy with the program's positive feedback from business communities spearheaded by various local government units Brahim added.

The annual activity provided the  local businessmen better and faster government processes, most especially in the renewal of their business permits.  

Last October 2017, MUNTREAL has also spearheaded the conduct of a three-day capacity building and revenue generation seminar workshop for municipal treasurers and collectors. 

Among included in the topics were Basic of Taxation (Legal Basis and its limitations, Administrative and Technical Supervision by the Bureau of Local Government Finance, Bond for Local Treasurers and other Accountable Officers of the Local Government Unit), Local Revenue Sources (Collection of revenues and other receipts, recording of receipts/ reporting of collection, types of local income and resources collected by LGUs, real property, business taxes, fees and charges, economic enterprise, and other taxes), Procedures in Collection and Remittance, and Accountable Forms and Reporting System.

 “The capacity building and seminar workshop is significant to our municipal treasurers and tax collectors would be more equipped with the proper information and additional knowledge imparted by our resource persons,” Brahim said.
