Election related behind the shooting in Midsalip Zamboanga del Sur

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur (April 29, 2016) – The Police is now conducting the thorough investigation on the shooting incident in Purok 4, Barangay Guma, Midsalip in this Province resulted the wounded of  3 person Wednesday morning.

Zamboanga del Sur Police Provincial Director Senior Supt. Michael Nicolas disclosed that the motive behind the incident is an election related after both political warring parties has filed a case after the shooting incident.

SSupt Nicolas said that based in their initial investigation conducted disclosed that while Barangay Captain Eduardo Selim, Barangay chairman of  Bgry. Matalang, Midsalip, supporter of the incumbent Mayor Liwaya Angcap-Paras on board with his Yamaha DT coming from Brgy. Poblacion B going to Brgy. Guma of the said town and upon reaching at the place of incident near at mayor’s Angcap house the suspect identified as Michael Umban, supporters of Mayoral Candidate Condrado Lumacad also on board with a Honda XR 200 overtake and shot the Brgy. Chairman using caliber 45 pistol and fled with his driven motorcycle after the commission of the crime but was crashed into a banana plant more or less 50 meters away from the crime scene and escaped on foot towards unknown direction. Luckily, Brgy Chairman Selim was not hit by the bullet. However, a stray bullet hit 3 bystanders in the area.

Police identified the 3 wounded person as Leonida Ganar, alleged supporter of Mayor Angcap, 50 year old a resident of Brgy. Golictop, Midsalip  was hit at the back portion of her body; Junieza May Dumaog, 12 years old a resident of Tuluan, Midsalip was hit at right portion of her thigh and Mario Diosmano alleged supporter of Mayor candidate Lumacad 60 years old a resident of Tuluan, Midsalip was hit at his foot sole, all victims were brought to the nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Responding Policemen recovered from the crime scene 7 empty shells of caliber 45 and one unit motorcycle and were brought to the Police Station for proper disposition and investigation.

SSUPT Nicolas said that Midsalip now is included in the watch list in the COMELEC as area of concern after the incident. There are 3 towns of Tukuran, Aurora and Dinas listed as areas of concern in this province.
Midsalip Vice-Mayor Leonila Angcap who is running for Mayor said that she was inside her house together with their political barangay leaders doing voter’s education when they heard series of gun burst that made people inside panic and hide for their safety.

Angcap said before the incident he called the chief of police of the said town through his mobile phone seeking police assistants due to the complaint from his political leader regarding the presence of unidentified armed men near their residence. During their conversation at her mobile phone suddenly gun burst was heard.

Leonila Angcap ended her term as mayor in Midsalip last 2013, she run as vice-mayor with her daughter as mayor and got elected. This year 2016 election her daughter decided not to run for any elected post that decided her to run as mayor against another two mayoral candidate Condrado Lumacad Sr. and Nene Lumaad, both were former mayor of said town.

Comelec, police conduct Oplan Baklas in Pagadian City

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, April 25 (PNA) -– The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in partnership with the local police on Monday removed all the campaign materials posted on unauthorized areas in this city.

The campaign, dubbed as Oplan Baklas, was focused along the north diversion road that connects Barangay Tiguma to Barangay Buenavista in this city.

Anacleta Balinton, acting city election officer, told the Philippines News Agency all of the campaign materials that were removed belong to candidates seeking national elective posts.

Balinton said the campaign materials were placed on electric posts and trees, which are prohibited base on Comelec regulations.

She said all of the campaign materials will be properly inventoried and will be reported to the Comelec central office for proper disposition.

She warned candidates to refrain from posting campaign materials in unauthorized areas as they will face sanctions.

Last week, the Comelec in partnership with the police and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) conducted Oplan Baklas along the national highway in this province. (PNA)
