Zamboanga City – This Ulva Reticulata is just like an algae, dark green
and the blades are filled with holes of various shape and sizes, the country
called it a “lumot”, they are net-like or
we called also sea lettuce.
Ulva Reticulata normally grows attached to rocky substrates but mature that easily detach and become free living vegetative algae.
This sea lettuce or “lumot” its massive growth of the free living forms is a result of high nutrients influx.
However, invasiveness is locallized when growth penetrates and competes
without any benthic species.
The species also has been reported to cause seasonal massive blooms in the Boracay Island, and now they are spotted in Tawi-Tawi area and Zamboanga Peninsula more particularly in 11 Islands .

Surprisingly, Mrs Juana M. Sahali told me about this algae business was
very rediculous things to talk about because it was “lumot” business.
It is annoying when she told about that this “lumot” brings her a big money in her pocket. She did not imagine that Vietnam businessmen called her to deliver immediately this Ulva Reticulata or “lumot” with a good price.

Mrs Sahali grab the opportunity even this is un-usual business. Due of
her curiosity about the new business demanded in abroad, she instantly deliver a hundred tons of Ulva Reticulata and she will earned as much she expected.
This algae, or sea lettuce or "lumot" accordingly has a range of potential nutrition
and health benefits: the Vietnam country used this algae for : Animal
feeds, fodder, forage, bait/attractant, fishmeal, invertebrate food, fuels,
biofuels, human food and beverage, flour or starch, food additive, spices and culinary herbs, vegetable,
chemicals materials, pesticides, medical and pharmaceutical and beauty products and among others.
This “lumot” it has potential for nutritional and health benefits according to
my reseach , it has antihepatotoxic, anticoagulant, analgesic and
anti- imflammatory effects and source of Pharmaceutical important compounds.
The said Ulva Reticulata has a big demand in some Asean countries like Vietnam, Japan, Korea and other countries
in Europe.
Mrs Juana Sahali was the first businesswoman who grab the business and
she was now on her 4th delivery to Vietnam and nearby Asean Countries soon...
She said, any one to
engage this new business potentials even this is a ‘lumot’ just grab it and just look her in person for the good price and details about it.(By: Becky D. de Asis/The Redline News)
