PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan -- The Commission on Elections
(Comelec) in Palawan is ready to receive starting Oct. 11 candidates who will
file their certificates of candidacy (COCs) for next year’s election.
“Ready naman tayo sa October 11. Hindi naman siguro ganoon kahirap
tumanggap ng magpa-file kasi may designated offices naman silang pupuntahan (We
are ready on October 11. I am sure it won’t be that difficult to receive
candidates who will file because there are designated offices they can go to),”
Comelec-Palawan spokesperson Jomel Ordas said in an interview on Monday.
Ordas said candidates who will run for provincial positions, including
the governor and members of the provincial board, will have to file their COCs
at the provincial Comelec office.
He reminded local candidates to make sure that their COC documents are
complete before they file them to avoid delays.
The Comelec earlier moved the filing of the COC from Oct. 1-5 to Oct.
11-17 after both the Senate and House of Representatives approved a resolution
on the postponement.
The Senate and Congress requested its postponement because their
sessions are ongoing. Some of them might not be able to file when the filing of
COCs pushes through on October 1-5. Our agency granted the request because they
have valid reasons), Ordas added. (PNA/By Celeste Anna Formoso)
