DPWH says new port expansion in Jolo will boost economy in ARMM – Engr. Abdulmunir I. Hadjirul

Jolo, Sulu – The Department of Public Works in Highways (DPWH-ARMM)  says that the new port expansion in Jolo will boost the economy in the Autonomous Region because it could be a regional transport hub  and it has sufficient capacity to  cater more vessels coming from different island provinces and  neighboring countries like Malaysia, China and Indonesia.

Recently, President Rodrigo Duterte said that the Jolo port is the gateway of BIMP-EAGA  in order to accelerate economic development in the four (4) countries aiming to increase trade, tourism and investment inside and outside the country.

“I will advise the Autonomous Region to open the Barter Trading  in Jolo and I will improve the Jolo port because through this port the province will be progressive and one of economic hub of ARMM”, said Duterte after he deliver his speech last ARMM Summit recently in Davao City (Dec.01, 2016).

DPWH-Ist Engineering District.. Abdulmunir I. Hadjirul said, that the port has been receiving of large quantities of construction materials, foods  and other goods coming from Zamboanga City and adjacent provinces in the region.


“It is a big responsibility now of DPWH- 1st District to finish as soon as possible of this port expansion because we need to hurry the other projects of the department before the year end”, this expansion could help our construction materials and even large vessels would like to dock this area, it could be possible”, Hadjirul added.

Jolo, Sulu is located between Borneo and Mindanao and has a population of  more or less 500,000 people. It is volcanic island in the Southern Philippines and it contains numerous volcanic cones and craters including the active “Bud Dajo” cinder cone . Sulu also known as headquarters of Abussayaf terrorist.

Today, Jolo is  still recovering  with the help of the Autonomous Region Government under Governor Mujiv Hataman. Billions of construction projects were  in placed here.

The rapid changes and improvement of Sulu in the geopolitical situation, things we weren’t thinking were impossible in the past are now possible.

The province had been the odds since it’s  creations that was long time ago, Thousand ‘s of lives  were lost due to massive encounter between the Abussayaf  terrorists and the government forces  but Sulu is still remained standing and fight for the people’s good. (The Redline News)
