Armed men strafe house in North Cotabato

KIDAPAWAN CITY  – Unidentified armed men strafed with bullets the house of a 58-year old farmer in Pikit, North Cotabato, Sunday night, police said.

Senior Inspector Arvin Cambang, deputy chief of Pikit PNP, identified the owner of the house as Felicido Tanudtanud Canete, farmer, and a resident of Barangay Kolambog.

Cambang said the victim and his family were in their deep slumber when they heard gunshots coming from outside their house.

After the gun bursts, a loud explosion came next, according to Cambang. Despite what happened, none among the members of the Canete was hurt, the police said.

Cambang and team from the Army’s 7th Infantry Battalion went to Canete’s house the next day and saw several bullet holes coming from M203 grenade launcher.

Authorities theorized the attack on Canete was connected to the previous incidents at Sitio New Valencia, Barangay Bualan, Pikit in Cotabato.

On April 19, a member of the Citizens Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) identified as Rodel Abellanida, 33, was killed when shot at many times by armed men while tending his farm animals in his lot at Barangay Bualan.

Rido or clan feud was believed the motive behind the killing.

The Pikit PNP has yet to release updated reports as to why they linked the Abellanida killing to the strafing of Canete’s house.   (Source: NDBC News/By Malu Manar)
