DAVAO CITY, Philippines – The chair of the Regional Peace and Order Council
in the Davao region on Wednesday condemned the attack staged by the Maute Group
in Marawi City.
“I strongly condemn the recent attack of the Maute Group in the City of
Marawi. As Compostela Valley governor and concurrent chair of the Regional
Peace and Order Council XI, we are one with Marawi (City) and its citizens in
condemning this inhumanity,” said Compostela Valley Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy in
a statement.
Governor Uy said the attack "is nothing but an act of terrorism
aimed to sow fear, bring chaos and spread hate."
He also expressed full support to the actions of President Rodrigo
Duterte, the local government unit of Marawi and the Armed Forces of the
Philippines, to put an end to the conflict.
“I encourage everyone to always exercise vigilance in whatever we do.
Please report to the authorities suspicious things and acts. In this time where
the foundations of our peace and democracy are threatened, we can only depend
on each other,” he added.
“Let's continue to pray for our brothers and sisters in Marawi City,”
he said.
