Kalibo villages urged to discover new tourism sites

KALIBO, Aklan    - The 16 barangays of the capital town of Aklan are urged to identify their respective areas suited for tourism.

Kalibo Sangguniang Bayan Member Philipp Kimpo Jr., who presented the proposal to the local council recently, said that tourism is more than just festivals and scenic destinations.

He said it can also focus on sports, culinary and cottage tourism, agri-tourism and activities of special interest.

Kimpo said the local government of Kalibo through its Tourism and Cultural Division will help the barangay officials of the 16 villages to discover and improve their tourism potentials.

Recently, Barangay Tinigaw, with its riverbanks as a highlight was launched as a sports tourism destination.

The village is being groomed to become a motocross destination in the province.Motocross is an off-road motorcycle racing held on enclosed off-road circuits.

Kalibo is already known for its Ati-Atihan festival celebrated every second week of January and the Bakhawan Eco-Park, a 220-hectare mangrove forest. (Karen V. Bermejo/PNA)
