Simunul, Tawi-Tawi (The Redline News) – This town is one of the historical place in the
Philippines especially for the Muslim Filipinos because Shiek Karimul Makdum a
Arab Merchant and missionary first set foot when he arrived in the Philippines
to introduce Islam.
Makdum built here the first mosque in the country in 1380 which still
stand today and known as Shiek Makdum Mosque.
After more than 600 years, the mosque has has gone for several
renovations. Two(2) original wooden posts of the mosque however, datin back in
1380 still found inside the mosque.
As an Official recognition as national landmark i the Autonomous region
in Muslim Minanao (ARMM), the Regional Government has allocated P80 million
pesos worth of budget to improve access road to Sheik Karmul Mosque.
In order to preserve and promote thje cultural and historical
significance of the site, Governor Mujiv Hataman has included the budget for
the construction of the Sheik Makdum cultural center.
The Arc project started in 2016 and it was implemented by the local
government of Simunul through the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the
regional government.

As a counterpart of tourism development projects of ARMM in Simunul, a
Welcome Arc was constructed by the local government to promote the town’s
cultural and tourism sites.
Aside from the tourism development projects of ARMM in Simunul, around
P300 million worth of projects has already been implemented here by the
regional government since 2012.
These projects includes includes bridges, seaports, flood control and
