Military of 87th IB recovered IED and paraphernalia owned by NPA in Guirang, Basey, Samar

 Basey, Samar - Troops of the 87th Infantry (Hinirang) Battalion under 801st Infantry (Bantay at Gabay) Brigade, 8ID, PA and personnel from 8ISU, ISG, PA found 19 anti-personnel Improvised Explosive Device (IED) technically known by the CPP-NPA-NDF as (CDX-2016) and other paraphernalia during a strike operation on Monday afternoon in between KM14 and KM15, Barangay Guirang, Basey, Samar.

Lt. Colonel Arnel A. Floresca, Commanding Officer of 87th IB, said the joint operation was conducted following the reports from the residents who were already tired and irate from the threats and extortions of the NPA.

Based on gathered pieces of information, the bombs are allegedly to be used by the NPA who are planning to launch tactical offensives before and after the State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on July 24, 2017,and to harm security forces during their operations in the area.

“The success of the operation was the result of the convergence of effort between the Local Government Unit of Basey, Samar headed by their LCE; most especially to the barangay officials and concerned civilians in the said barangay who tipped us on the location of these homemade bombs,” Floresca added.


The continuous manufacture and use of the IEDs are violations on the provisions of the Comprehensive Agreement on Respect of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law of the Geneva Convention.
