CAMP BUD DATU, Indanan, Sulu – At least 45 pupils and parents are
recipients of the Dental Civic Action Program (DENCAP) launched by the 501st
Infantry Brigade (501BDE) at Panglima Mammah Elementary School, June 22.
The DENCAP was held in coordination with the school administration to
address dental concerns of their pupils as well as some of the parents who
can’t afford to avail the services of a private dental clinic in Jolo, the
capital town of Sulu.
DENCAP is just one activity among the many endeavors that the
Philippine Army units in Sulu would like to extend to its adopted schools to
show concern for their well-being.
A lecture on personal hygiene and oral
health was also facilitated by 1st Lt. Rodriguez, newly assigned Dental Officer
of 501BDE. These are manifestations that Valiant Troopers are looking after the
welfare of the people showcasing Army’s Core Purpose of ‘serving the people and
securing the land’.
Adopt-A-School program is simultaneously launched by 501BDE and its
Battalions during the opening of classes this month. Students of adopted
schools initially received shoeboxes containing school supplies and hygiene
kits under the Philippine Army’s ‘Project Shoebox’ with the theme: ‘Kahon Para
Sa Kapayapaan’. Some adopted schools also received books.
A total of 2,443 shoeboxes and 1,086 books were distributed during the
Memorandum of Agreement signing between the adopted schools and Army units this
June. It is expected that all adopted schools shall avail other programs of the
501BDE and its Battalions like the just concluded DENCAP in collaboration with
different stakeholders.
Although 501BDE is relentless in the conduct of Focused Military
Operations against the Terrorist ASG and other lawless elements especially now
that Sulu is under Martial Law, it still find time to engage in Civil-Military
Operations activities directly benefiting the civilian populace, more
importantly targeting students who will inherit all the efforts of the military
in making Sulu a peaceful and progressive province in the near future.
