Media forum in Aklan to tackle martial law, federalism

KALIBO, Aklan, Philippines  - A forum to tackle issues about martial law, federalism, and national governance will be held in the capital town of Kalibo on June 24.

The one-day media forum dubbed "Congressman Allen Salas Quimpo Memorial Media Forum" will be spearheaded by the Aklan Press Club, Inc. (APCI), the Publishers’ Association of the Philippines, Inc. (PAPI) and the Northwestern Visayan Colleges.

The event will also be sponsored by the Provincial Government of Aklan, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Aklan and the Carmern Hotel.

The activity is also in honor of the late congressman of Aklan, who is known for his contribution in the Aklan media, the academe and politics.

Among the topics to be discussed in the forum are Martial Law: Its Implications on Press Freedom, Human Rights and its Constitutionality; Dutertenomics, Federalism and the Anti- Illegal Drug Campaign of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Atty. Salvador Panelo, Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez and Interior and Local Government Undersecretary John R. Castriciones are expected to talk during the forum.


Journalist from Aklan and other provinces in Panay, campus journalists, representatives from the education sector, heads of business and socio-civic organizations, heads and information officers of national and local government offices, among others are expected to attend the forum.
