COTABATO CITY, Philippines -- As part of humanitarian response to the mass
displacement of Marawi City residents, the Department of Agriculture and
Fisheries in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DAF-ARMM) extended 1,400
packs of food assistance to Marawi City evacuees.
Of the number, 1,000 packs were turned over to ARMM Humanitarian
Emergency Action Response Team (HEART) as the department’s share to the ongoing
relief assistance efforts being undertaken by the disaster agency while the
remaining 400 packs were from the contributions shared by the DA regional and
provincial employees in the region.
DAF-ARMM Regional Secretary Alexander G. Alonto Jr., a Maranaw, ordered
the release of the department savings for the purchase of food supplies as “an
act of concern and sympathy for the affected populace in Marawi and nearby
towns in Lanao del Sur.”
Kadiguia Abdullah of the Department of Agriculture Employees
Association (DAEA) said 400 food packs were already sent to Marawi City last
May 31 brought there by DAF-ARMM Budget Officer Lininding Magara and staff.
The relief goods were turned over to Lanao del Sur Provincial
Agriculture Officer (PAO) Pangalian Balindong.
Meanwhile, DA Undersecretary for Special Concerns Bairani Dilangalen
has appealed to all DAF-ARMM employees and other DA offices in Mindanao donate
relief goods for the beleaguered Marawi residents.
Despite the surge of emergency assistance coming to affected families,
Dilangalen said there is still a need more “considering the magnitude of this man-made
catastrophe.”
She added that it would be best if all contribute to the cause.
