MANILA, Philippines - The management of Resorts World Manila assured
financial assistance worth PHP1-million for families of the victims of an
attack by an unidentified man who torched gaming tables inside the luxury hotel
casino in Pasay City early Friday.
"The Resorts World Manila is releasing financial assistance to the
victims and their families to address their immediate needs. On top of the
funeral and burial assistance that Resort World will shoulder, we are extending
PHP1 million to each families of the deceased," the company said in a
statement released on Saturday.
“Nothing can ever replace the lives of our loved ones. Yesterday
(Friday), we all lost so many lives because of a senseless act,” it added.
The company also said it hopes that such assistance will somehow help
each family hurdle through their needs during this difficult time.
The Southern Police District (SPD) said fatalities went up to 38,
including the gunman, while 78 others were injured.
The authorities have yet to identify the suspect.
On Friday, Resorts World Manila head Stephen Reilly said a total of 35
fatalities was listed in their record, wherein 22 were hotel guests and 13 were
employees.
The posh hotel-casino is still on lockdown as of Saturday. (Christopher
